OK gals, guys and anybody in between.
This diary shall be short for now but I hope you can help me thicken it with information, links to what I am referring to and ideas.
Let me get to it
As you know, Hillary Clinton has jumped on Obama's comments at a recent SF fundraiser to bash him and try to tarnish him what we will call blue-collar small town whites. Among the offensive ways she has taken to using it against him (Annie Oakley, elitist), one stings me personally: she has been dropping San Francisco at every turn, fully knowing the bait effect the name of our good town has on certain demographics.
I can't list all the examples of her doing it - especially since that kind of baiting is subtle but unmistakable - but she has taken pains to always remind people of the "san Francisco" location of the remarks - even though she was here that same week for a bunch of fundraisers too !
SF was won by Obama (although not by the margins we volunteers had hoped for). But the way she is throwing our city under the bus is offensive to me and testifies of the kind of politics she practices.
There is not much we can do about it at first glance.
Nancy Pelosi is obviously too high-profile to say anything about it.
However a very high-profile endorsee of hers is Mayor Newsom. God knows I resent him for the work he has done on her behalf here and other places but the truth is he has taken a risk by sticking his neck out for her when the rest of the city was so clearly pro-Obama.
So let me ask you, fellow SF Kossacks, what we can do to pressure Newsom into a reaction of the way she has been insulting our city either directly or by implication.
Let's list the most obvious of these offenses and see what we can organize to pressure his office into a reaction of some kind we can then have published in alternative newspapers or even the Chronicle.
Obviously we won't get him to switch his endorsement. And it probably would do much more harm than good. But we can pressure him into saying something about the way she has been talking about us.
- It would be a nice little embarassment for her and remind people of "say one thing when I am campaigning here, another thing once i have moved on to another state" that NH voters are already familiar with.
- It would also help me reconcile myself with that pathetic choice Newsom has made to be a shill for her campaign if at least he had the intellectual honesty to defend us when she is indirectly attacking us.
Anybody interested in trying to fight that fight ? Anybody remembers one of the most egregious examples of her dropping SF's name for no good reason other than blue-collar-baiting ? Anybody knows what would be more efficient ? Organized phone calls ? Mass emails through the SF for Obama email group ?
Let's fight !
UPDATE: Me likey AmericanRiverCanyon's idea as stated below:
I would start by first listing the places she's been in SF or Marin recently for fundraising, with the dates and the hosts, if there were. Then I'd run some searches on the campaign donation websites** and I'd have a nice, big fat list of SF area donors and the amounts she was getting from them in this campaign cycle, from the year 2007 onwards.
Then I'd throw in some of those completely dumba$$ quotes she made recently about being elite and from San Francisco. Then I'd ask, why does she think San Francisco is nothing more than a handy ATM $ Dispenser?, and does she think she's a strong enough candidate to beat McCain if she loses SF and LA after all the dumbsh(t remarks she's made lately. Because the answer to that is NO.
And THEN I'd summarize this and get your diary summary published in the Chronicle as an op ed piece, as well as letters to the editor.
Anybody knows how to get a head start there ?
